Interim Leaders

The war in Liberia lasted from December 1989 to August 2003. Throughout this period, temporary government structures were organized to maintain order and security especially in the capital. These interim governments were the result of numerous peace agreements/accords. The interim leaders were usually neutral parties not affiliated with any of the warring factions; however, vice chairs during the Councils of State included members from the various rebel groups.
